Week 15: Saying Goodbye to Noir106 and UMW

Bev here. Mariah is over there being sappy and sad about gradating, so I’m going to let you in on a little secret until she is ready to talk….you ready? We just solved a major case. There has been little news about it. Damon doesn’t even know it happened. Fast Travels got contracted by the CIA to save a little girl. So let me run you through the case here. You won’t find any specific details on our company blog because….lame government rules. you know, national security and all. So here is what happened and how we found her.

The Case: Find the kid before May 1 at 5:00 PM EST. Simple right? no. I got a call from an old friend of mine, right after solving the case for Bond. I hadn’t talked to him in about twenty years so it was a little weird that he had my number. When he called, this is what my phone looked like

That was definitely not normal. I answered it and immediately recognized his voice. My ex-husband. You may be thinking, when were you married. The answer: Too long ago. For two weeks. He moved to Paris, got re-married and had a kid after I broke his heart. I knew that, but I didn’t know why he was calling. He said he would send me some text messages letting me know what was going on so we can a quick conversation back and forth until I told him I would be on it. meme-from-iphonetextgenerator

So I went along and checked my email and saw this.

Why was he flying me to atlanta? Well Here is a spin for you:

So there we had it. When I got to the airport, there was a security detail ready to pick me up. As soon as I got in the car, I was briefed. I can’t tell you exactly what was said, but the result was us turning around and getting to the airport. We needed Damon for this one. Damon and I got together and started to figure out what had happened to the girl. He did some interenet digging and we narrowed it down to three people.

The Mom
The Evil Oil Corporate Enemy
The Weird Guy with a lot of political power

We went through the list. I couldn’t figure out why someone would want to take her I mean, his dad was a super green hippie anti-oil advocate. Yes he worked for the president and no one knew his political beliefs, but why would they take his kid? Why not just beat him up? I then found out why when I got this.

First – WHO STILL MAKES ACTUAL RANSOM NOTES. STOP. THIS IS NOT THE FIFTIES. Second, this narrowed it down to one of two people. Liquid gold is oil, so it was either the oil guy or political guy, because the mom wouldn’t call annabelle goldielocks, the whole family hated that name with their shiny blonde hair.

Then I got a message from a random number. meme-from-iphonetextgenerator (1)

I knew he/she didn’t mean Paris, TX. It was a joke about me. Assholes. So I called damon and had him check out the number and location. He narrowed the call down to right under the Eiffel tower. We got on a flight and booked it to Paris. And there she was. So happy to see someone she knew. She ran to her dad.

Now – you are probably thinking, why did she go missing? Well I was still trying to figure that out. and I figured I needed to go check with some people. and here is the rest of the story. After talking to the mom, I found out that she gave the big oil guy (the people kidnapping anna) the code to the lock to unleash the oil – so they could cash in. She didn’t think that my ex would give up the fight for his daughter so when they came to her, she hacked his system and made it happen. I don’t think any of this is supposed to be public knowledge. But You get the drift. and with that. I think I am going out of commission. This case made me think a lot about my life and I think I need some time off, from the wonderful city of Paris.

xoxo Bev.

My case was interesting. I didn’t start and use twitter or anything at first because I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. But I knew I had to work with it. I wanted to focus on writing, something I wanted to do more of this semester, but I also wanted to use design and drawing a little bit. While it isn’t super present,  it is definitely still there. I designed all the pictures in here (except the plane info, which is a family’s plane info for graduation….oops). I also spent the last two weeks catching up on some work as well as completing this weeks. Check out my tutorials (1) and (2), my TDC ideas, and my assignment ideas. I really enjoyed doing those!

My thoughts on this class – I am so glad I took this class. I got to meet some amazing students and see some amazing work. I wish I would have done it at a time when I was less busy with graduation and my internship and finding a job, but I loved the class. I think with more time, I could have done more work and been more successful at staying on track. Sometimes though, the work was overwhelming even for people that weren’t doing the things I was. I wish there were alternate assignment weeks, where you could figure things out as you went along. and just get the work done. But in reality, I realize that isn’t possible. but I love DS106. And I will now always be a DS106’er. <3 <3 <3
